Studying Online:
Hi, I thought it’d be useful to make a post on useful online resources/websites that really helped me with revision last year, and could help some of you with your revision. A lot of them are to do with GCSEs or A-Level, but the content will be helpful to anyone taking the subjects :)
YOUTUBE:
- Crash Course - this is an amazing channel that makes great videos about anatomy, history, chemistry, psychology and loads more. It’s not exam board or level specific to anything, but just gives lots of information in an interesting way.
- The GCSE Guide - this channel creates very short but useful videos on specific topics in maths and the sciences, but has started to expand to english and history too. The videos for science are AQA specific but they can be helpful to people doing other boards.
- Khan Academy - the Khan Academy channel uploads videos on a range of subjects (not specific to GCSE). These videos are a bit longer and more detailed, but are really really useful. There are also sub-channels of this (channels specific to maths, medicine etc.)
- myGCSEscience - this channel is specific to AQA core science, and it uploads little videos on each topic of C1, P1, B1 and there are a few on the additional science topics too.
GENERAL STUDYING:
- BBC Bitesize (GCSE) - this website has revision resources for alls subjects at GCSE. It has concise notes that you can read, some of which are exam board specific, as well as little revision quizzes and exercises to test your knowledge.
- Scool.co.uk - this is a great website that has revision for most subjects at GCSE and A-Level. You can register for free and then you can find a range of resources; such as flashcards.
- Revision World - this website has revision notes and past papers available for a massive range of subjects. There’s sections for GCSE and for A-Level.
ENGLISH:
- Sparknotes - I used this great website loads during my revision, It was great for English Literature GCSE (The Crucible, TKAM etc.) because it has really detailed notes on characters, themes and more. There’s also SAT prep on sparknotes which I’m sure could be useful to some of you.
- No Fear Shakespeare (sparknotes) - this specific section of Sparknotes is amazing if you’re studying Shakespeare play (which most people do at some point in school). It has the original text parallel to a much easier to understand/modern version.
- GCSE English Lit. poetry (conflict) - I used this website loads when making annotations. There are really detailed videos explaining each poem, as well as notes and annotations that you can download
- GCSE English Lit. texts (OMAM, AIC, LOTF) - This website has some great links to revision resources and context ideas about the texts you might be studying - I didn’t study these texts, but used the same website for poetry so I know it’s good.
MATHS:
- GCSE Maths revision - this website has loads of different revision sections of notes for all of the different sub-groups/chapters, as well as having past papers to practise
- A-Level Maths revision - this is the same website as above but there’s an entire different section for A-Level. It has notes
- Kesh Maths - this website has maths past papers by topic, so you can work on specific areas of maths through practise questions. I found this really useful for my maths revision at GCSE.
- StudyMaths - there are revision notes and explanations on a range of maths topics. There is also a ‘question bank’ where you can test your knowledge
- MyMaths - this is something my school subscribes to and I used a lot. There are online lessons where you can go over concepts and topics, as well as loads of practise questions in en exam style.
SCIENCE:
- GCSE Chemistry - this website has lots of links to specific topics in Chemistry (e.g. hydrocarbons, the Haber process) as well as revision questions.
- GCSE Physics - this website has lots of links to specific topics in Physics (e.g. electromagnetism, forces and motion) as well as revision questions.
- Biologyguide.net - this website has notes and info on a huge range of different topics - it’s around the detail and difficulty required for A-Level biology.
- Passmyexams.co.uk - all three sciences are covered with notes at GCSE level on this website
